Impingement

The ball and socket of the joint require a closely matching curve and coverage to allow good, unhindered range of movement. Several things can impair this relationship, including genetics, trauma, loading and wear and tear in the joint. If the ball does not fit adequately into the socket, it can promote excess force in certain parts, abnormal movements and instability within the joint.
